Before giving birth, I invested a lot of money on  BPA free Avent Bottles.  In Manila, they cost about P1800 for a pair of bottles.  They’re pretty expensive but no less than the best for my baby, right?  But those BPA free Avent bottles turned out to be the worst bottles ever.  They leaked like crazy it drove me nuts!  Good thing I bought my stash on Amazon.com so I got it cheaper but I bought a lot of it to last Luke more than enough until he starts drinking from the cup.  I didn’t even get to use the 4 oz bottles long enough since Luke was such a milk monster, he had to use the 9 oz bottles right away.    But I still would’ve good use for them had they not been leaking.  Oh, you won’t imagine the frustration of having a leaky bottle that you have to open and close over and over by trial and error until it stops leaking.  Add a crying hungry baby on top of that, and it’s a sure recipe for insanity.  I actually consider it a feat for my EQ that I haven’t thrown any of the bottles on the floor and stomped on them until they become powder.  But I have imagined that scene often.

Before finding the ultimate solution, I’ve tried researching online about the problem and it seems that it was a pretty common issue.  I figured it must be a design problem.  How can Avent quality control miss this kind of problem?  It was super faulty. There were also a couple of instructions on how to seal the bottles properly.  What the heck?  These are baby bottles!  Why does it need special techniques to close them?  But I did still try sealing them “properly” and guess what … they still leaked. Argh!

Good thing I came across a post where the mommies returned their bottles for a 1 for 1 exchange.  So that’s what I did.  I complained and Philips called me the following day and offered a 1 for 1 exchange. They exchanged all 14 of my bottles with new ones.  At first I thought, how this would solve the problem since they’re just giving me the same bottles with the same design.  But good thing the new bottles don’t leak anymore.

Avent probably just had one big batch of faulty bottles out of their factory or they altered the design slightly and didn’t bother to recall the old ones.  I noticed how the screwing the new bottle closed has a different feel from the old ones.  At least, Philips-Avent had a decent after sales service.  Now I can stress about the more important things. :)
