Wassup?
Haven’t posted anything for a while. That’s because I found myself something interesting to do. That is as a photography assistant and DI (digital imaging) artist. Let me first get it out of the way and say that the pay is peanuts - I was earning more when I was working in Manila. Considering the cost of living in Singapore vs Manila, yes - it’s really peanuts. But it more than compensates for it with interestingness and the amount of things I can learn.
I look at it more like having taken advanced photography and DI classes and getting a stipend at the same time. I put my skill level to Madami-pa-kong-kakaining-bigas. I would have mastered things way before had I been really dedicated to photography. This stint would allow force me to focus on the craft.
One thing I realized was commercial photography involves A LOT of photoshop. No purists here. So the past days I’ve been putting myself through a crash course in Photoshop. I also need to build more muscles because I find all the studio equipment very heavy.
I hope to get a lot more out my new 40D than what I got out of my 350D. Compared to the other 350Ds on the resale market, mine was quite a gem because it looked new.
One of my few first DI projects is already out on the October issue of Style Magazine. It looks like a normal picture. I never realized how much touching up goes into normal looking pictures. My name’s not credited but the boss told me he’d see if he can put my name on future issues as incentive. Nevertheless, I’m proud of it and I’m looking forward to doing more.
Incidentally, the October issue of Style magazine has a feature article on Power Dressing, which my good friend, Grace, also wrote about for Philippine Star last week. So I guess power dressing is getting some attention these days, which is good. I look forward to the day when you can come to the office in Manila dressed to kill (appropriately, of course) and not have everyone you meet ask you what the special occasion is.
