This is yet another Cubao story.  I swear, this series of Cubao posts is totally unintentional. So Jor and I were on our way home thinking about where to have dinner since we wouldn”t be spending time together tomorrow.  We decided to pay Trauben - Jaeger (fka Treffpunkt-Jedderman) a visit.  It’s that German/Austrian sausage house under the Santolan flyover beside some KTV named Lovers, I think, or some sh#t like that - yet another establishment in Cubao that reminds me of my childhood.

Back in the days when there were no Pricesmart or Deutches Haus yet and hungarian sausages were not available in your regular grocery stores,  (not sure if it’s as old or older than Santi’s)  we used to make regular visits to Treffpunkt to stock up on our sausages.  My favorite was this dish that was like kinilaw na assorted sausages - yumm.

I remembered it was a decent sausage delicattesen.  It had a small area for dine-in clients with red and white checkered tablecloths.  Last I was there was during my early college years and the dining area was no longer there.  A few days back, Jor and I made a mental note to visit it again after all these years seeing that they have placed the dining area back.

As we walked in, I noticed it smelled of wet rags you use to clean tables with in carinderias.  No other people were there and the servers looked actually surprised to see us come in.  So as we were going around trying to choose which table to sit in, we saw this guy, who turned out to be the cook, sleeping.  You know how it’’s like when you”re trying to sleep sitting down and your head falls then it jerks back up and then slowly it falls again.  That’’s how he was hehe.  Then one of the waitress slapped his cap and said “Huy may cutomer!”  It was like a scene from a Tagalog comedy movie.

So we went ahead picked the table near the entrance, placed our order - TJ plate for 2 and Beef goulash.  I usually just have regular tap water when dining out but I ordered for bottled water ”coz the place just didn”t look safe enough for just tap water.

The background music was provided by 101.9 - for life! - which, in fairness, is better that Love Radio who kept me company in the taxi on my way to work this morning.  While we were eating, kids selling sampaguita kept coming in and selling us sampaguita - it was kinda annoying.  I started eating  a little faster because I figured it was dark outside and we were eating in a table near glass entrance doors where there were these bright spotlights on us and if we could attract sampaguita vendors then it was probably just as easy to attract muggers and holduppers.

But overall, the food was yummy and cheap and they had mustard which for me compensates for everything else.  In the end, good food prevailed and when it’s served, the ambience kinda just fades out.  *Burp*

P.S.

I decided to file for VL since my car’s color coded tomorrow and all my cab experiences are just plain BAD.
