It’s probably weird that I’m blogging about it almost a month after our anniversary but I had nothing better to do so here.

Ceylon Room

For our first year anniversary, we spent the night at the Discovery Country Suites in Tagaytay. We stayed at the Sri Lankan inspired Ceylon room. The place is cozy and private because they only have 7 suites total.

They have a jacuzzi outside so you can relax and enjoy the view of the lake but Taal volcano is not visible no matter how much you stretch your neck. We didn’t get to use the jacuzzi though because the water wasn’t heated.

Wine and Cheese

They served cheese and wine in the evening for guests which I enjoyed. I think I ate all the brie.
Then we had dinner at Antonio’s. The food was good as always (and pricey as always). I had foie gras and Jor had the sampler. When we got back to our hotel room, they served us cookies and milk. The cookies weren’t spectacular and the milk, for me, tasted like Bear Brand - which I didn’t like. But Jorey said that’s how carabao’s milk tastes like so maybe it was.

Dining Area
Dining Area

The following morning I was really looking forward to breakfast because the pictures in the hotel’s site looked scrumptous. The dining area was nice and cozy but the breakfast itself was disappointing. Their serving size is a little too small for my appetite. I ordered bacon and longaniza with egg and fried rice. When the food arrived there were 2 pieces of bacon and 2 tiny pieces of vigan longaniza. I eat the exact same thing at home except that I can eat all the bacon and longaniza I want. Tsk tsk. Maybe I had too high of an expectation. I was expecting something like a buffet breakfast at Circles, Shangri-La because their room rate was more expensive than Shangri-La.

For P10k++ a night (about P12xxx.00 net), I think it was only fair that I had such high expectations. The service was good, yes. But that’s about all I can say.

I’m a value-for-money kind of person. I’m willing to spend if I can get a good value in return. In this case, I don’t think I got fair value for the price we paid.

But it was our first year anniversary so no regrets there. It was nice to spend a day together and do anything we wanted like money grew on trees.
