Bags with a cause
By now, everyone probably has Anya Hindmarch’s I’m-not-a-plastic-bag bag which started out as a good idea coz it had an environmental message. But these bags have been selling at very inflated prices it’s just silly. I just hope the peeps who bought the bags at least understand the point of the bag.

Then there’s Lauren Bush’s feed bag which sells on Amazon for $60. 1 bag will feed hungry children in school around the world for 1 year. But the actual cost of feeding the children is only $34 – so I guess they learned their lesson from Anya Hindmarch and started out overpriced. I mean, even if you add the cost of a bag of same material with all it’s overhead costs, say the I’m-not-a-plastic-bag bag, which originally sold for $6 (I think), then LB’s bag should cost no more than $40.
Somebody creative and non-profit oriented (fine, I’d settle for not-so-profit-oriented in other words not greedy!) should do a bag for a local cause. Something like a piña bag or just plain burlap with the words “I support our cottage industry” or “I send indoy to school” – something. It could help the families of farmers or weavers of our own country. They should repackage native materials with a more western design. The native materials with native design apparently do not appeal to natives.

Right now, I’m happy with my Ikea straw bag which I got for free (the big one I bought for S$1~P30) and my pack and roll stroller. Fashion-wise it sucks but we all know that even fug stuff can turn into the next It item – take Crocs for example. (I do have a pair of crocs but they’re not the fug type and that pair has served it’s worth for all the looks and compliments it’s taken – it’s ready to retire.)
The bag and stroller serves the same purpose which is to reduce, reuse, recylce. The Ikea bag even has a lifetime guarantee. I suppose that means they’d replace it if get’s worn and torn. The stroller is pretty convenient specially since we don’t have a car and I do my groceries in bulk – alone. So basically everything goes straight from the counter to the stroller to the taxi’s trunk. No need for plastics. That should take care of my carbon footprint. I’m buying one for my mom for those trips to the Sunday market at the Lung center (actually more for her convenience than her environmental conscience).

astig yan stroller ah. heavy duty ba yan? bumili ako ng stroller recently pero parang pang-estudyante. i use it to lug our laundry to and from the laundry shop and sa sack of rice na iniiwan lang sa guard ng condo namin. mukhang matibay naman.
pero ok yung ganyan, convertible to basket type in case you want to lift it. how much yan?

Yung binili ko sa mom ko na mas malaki lumalabas mga P600.00 yung sa kin slightly cheaper. I tried using yung stroller na pang student before pero nahuhulog sa gilid. This is much more convenient. hehe
