Wikimapia and Pinoys
Yesterday, I was looking for Singapore places in wikimapia and noticed that the descriptions are as clean as Singapore itself. Most descriptions are legit – stating only the building’s name except for a few descriptions similar to “Blk 125 – Juan Pogi lives here” or “Ate Someone lives here”.
If you look at descriptions in Manila, they’re as “dirty” – (in the sense that there’s so much irrelevant information) as the city itself. Actually one word that comes to mind is “jologs” but I refrain from using that word coz some people might find it offensive.
Reading them is one good way of killing time coz it can be amusing to find out what other pinoys have been doing while they were killing their time. Many descriptions like “Home of the DotA King” actually made me realize how popular DoTa was in Manila.
One time, I was looking at descriptions near our barangay trying to see if our neighbors have descriptions of their houses and saw my bro’s (now ex-)girlfriend’s house. The description said “Bahay ng gf ng DotA God” – I was like ang kapal naman ng muka ng kapatid ko – eh I can cream him 1-1 anytime. (Mayabang din ako nun kasi my bros and I used to play in gaming cafes sa mga kanto kanto with other kids there and even if I’d be the only girl and I’d still kick all their asses. It was fun and it was jologs at the same time – aah, the glory days.) But when I asked him about it he didn’t even know what wikimapia was. He even suggested that it might be one of the kids he’d been teaching how to play – yeah, right! It was funny!
