I was looking for interesting activities to do on Chinese New year so I went to the Visit Singapore site.

I went to the Esplanade Park last Friday, though I didn’t get to see the fireworks coz I was late. I almost didn’t go coz the weather didn’t look too cooperating. When I got there, there were a lot of people with their dslrs and their tripods. I only had my camera phone with me. I decided not to bring my dslr coz I was going by myself (Jorey had prior engagements). I knew I was in for long walking and i was wearing a new pair of shoes I bought from Greenhills hoping to break them in while I’m at it. (It’s pretty but I sure regret wearing those shoes!)

The Esplanade park was all lighted up with red and yellow lights. There were a lot of red lanterns hanging in the area and the setup was very Chinese New Year-y. It was packed with tourists and probably locals too. There were performers on stage doing cultural dances and acrobatics. There were big mascots representing zodiac signs and I saw this obese Chinese guy in a Chinese emperor costume flocked by other Chinese shaking hands with everybody wishing them luck and giving away something. His bodyguards were striking gongs every so often. It was interesting.

What’s most interesting of all was the food booths. There were lots of Chinese food that was more familiar to me like squid balls and dumplings and noodles. It was mouthwatering! Especially, the squidballs. They were 3x as big as the squidballs I eat in the Philippines and they’re not wrinkled. I love squid balls! But I didn’t eat. There were no available seats and I didn’t feel like eating alone plus I had a yummy self made meal before I left the house.
