Gong Xi Fa Cai
As early as two weeks ago, our building already started decorating for the Chinese New Year. It’s a major event here in Singapore. (Duh!) There’s a long weekend starting on the 17th till the 20th. I heard most businesses are closed on New Year’s day itself which is the 18th. Red is the color of the moment. There’s a lot of red chinese lanters, red envelopes, and those potted plants with orange fruits. I’m not really sure if they are actually oranges.
The Chinese New year is supposed to welcome the arrival of spring signifying a new start. (Very much in line with our current situation!). This is also the time when the Chinese do their spring cleaning (duh, again) and redecoration. That’s why most of the stores specially the furniture shops are on sale. As you’ve probably read in the previous entries, being the good tourists that we are, we went with the bandwagon.
I plan to check out the River Hongbao Celebration tomorrow at the Esplanade Park with my handy dandy Canon 350D. Anything that includes fireworks in the program, count me in. I’m also looking forward to dancing dragons, acrobats, and calligraphers from China. The plan is to get there by 7pm since the fireworks start at 8ish. I hope that’s enough time to find myself a nice spot. Who knows, I might even submit an entry to the Windows into Asia contest by NGC and Sony Ericsson.
