Burberry slip-ons for boys

Here’s another shoe I’m crushing on but it’s not for me.  It’s for Luke.  It would go well with his palos / ivycap that I scoured for over the internet.  And it wasn’t easy finding one in his size.

Luke likes the word Fookie

He laughs at achoo and fookie.  He’s funny.  He likes peekaboo too.

Vans Sophie as my prize

As a prize Jor bought me the shoes I was crushing on.

I’ve wanted a similar pair last year at Giordano Ladies but I remember they were too expensive.  S$200 I think.  I also saw a similar one at one of the shops in Venice.  The release of the Sophie shoes from Vans was just a sign that I should get one and I’m happy Jor finally got me one.

It’s more expensive in Singapore at S$109 compared to $55 in the US but they no longer have it in my size anywhere on the internet.

Hole-in-one!

If you see me swing my pitching wedge, there’s a chance you might think I’m good.  But in fact, I can only swing one club – my pitching wedge because it was the only one we shortened so I could manage the weight and the length. Though Jor insists that I have good form and I can start playing in the small courses using my pitching wedge, I will only play on the green when I am confident enough that I wouldn’t look stupid or annoying.

Last Sunday, we were practicing our swing at the Poh Brothers driving range with Jor’s cousins.  The nice thing about this driving range, though it’s a bit more expensive than the others, is that the balls are tagged.  The driving range has specific targets at certain distances and when you land your ball on the targets, a monitor on your bay will keep a record.  You get points based on how far you are from the target.  That way you get to practice your accuracy instead of mindlessly hitting balls.  Golf is after all about accuracy.  You aim your ball at a certain distance in a certain direction.

Credit card hidden charges

Here’s another reason you should watch your credit card bills closely.

Aside from making sure you are not paying for fraudulent charges made on your card, you should also take a look at the finance charges you are being charged with.

I usually pay my credit card bills in full so that I don’t pay finance charges.  I pay them online through BPI Expressonline.  But due to my own carelessness, I mistakenly paid my HSBC bill to my BPI card.   It was a scheduled payment but I only noticed the mistake after the payment was made.

The first thing I did of course was to call BPI and ask them for my money back which they returned a few days later.  Thank you, BPI.  The next thing I did was find out the rate of finance charge  – 3.5%.  When I was in college, I thought that 3.5% was applied to the balance after you’ve made the payment but actually that interest charge is applied to the outstanding balance before your payment.  So if you have left even 1 cent on your balance you would be charged interest based on your previous balance.

Up till recently, I thought that was all there is to it – until my booboo.

Luke at 7 months

Luke is now 7+ months.  Since my last entry about him, he can now go down the bed feet first.  He always crawls to the edge of the bed, now at least he turns and crawls down feet first.  It doesn’t do him any good so far since he can’t really walk yet.  So he just stands by the bed until I pick him up and put him back.

I feel that he’s going to say mama soon.  Because both Jor and I heard him on different occasions say ma-ma-gibber-gibber-gibber when he was upset. I can’t wait to hear him say it more often.

He’s had colds since around Feb 25.  This is probably his first major cold – the gooey-green-mucus type.  Had he not been super dooper active, I would have been worried sick about it.  But it doesn’t seem to stop him from exploring.  Good thing he’s sport about it because the kind of colds he has now is the type that would just make me sulk.  Occasionally, he gags from too much mucus and he’d breathe from his mouth because his nose is so stuffed.

Cloth Diapers for my green conscience

I’ve always been conscious of the environment.  I’ve made it a point to live as green as possible as long as it’s within a reasonable budget and it’s not too inconvenient.  My criteria may sound limiting but there’s actually a lot a person can do.   You don’t have to be a hippie tree hugger to save the environment.

One of the things I do to contribute is to use reusable cloth diapers for my baby.  I’ve read that in the US alone 570 disposable diapers are thrown every second which amounts to 49 million a day, 18 Billion diapers a year.  Disposable diapers take forever to break down.  Some would argue that cloth diapers consume more water and energy because of the additional laundry load but I think the additional consumption in water and energy is better than tons of diapers in landfills.  Plus you can save energy if you air dry instead of using a dryer.

Luke at 7 months

Luke just turned 7 months a few days ago.  So far he’s been pretty advanced in his motor skills for his age.  I subscribe to babycenter.com and read the What to Expect the First Year book and I usually have to look ahead for milestones because he’s already accomplished most of them already.

Needless to say he is sooooo active and mobile.  He has a walker and but he prefers to walk without it, assisted.  His upper front teeth came out the 2nd week of his 6th month.  At 5 months he’s been drinking from a sippy cup.  At 6 months we bought him a straw cup but he prefers to drink straight from the cup. He still prefers the TV, dvd, cable remote over his toys.  That’s the first thing he goes for whenever he’s in his walker – that’s if he doesnt notice the power sockets first.

But he loves books.  And he loves this book I bought for him called “Baby Faces”. It’s a big book with big illustrated faces of babies. And there’s one baby there that sticks out his tongue that he copies.

He is a monster when it comes to eating.  At this point he knows very well how to protest and complain and he does that whenever the spoonfuls are slow to come.  Sometimes he’ll get so impatient he’ll attempt to grab the dish and glug down his cereal.

At 6 months, he can identify a few of Dora’s friends from the Dora flashcards I bought when he was just a month old.  Given 2 flashcards to choose from, he can identify Backpack, the Big Red chicken, the baby blue bird, and Dora.  He likes watching Dora and gets excited whenever he hears the theme song. Even with the solid foods, he still wakes up at 3 AM for a bottle feeding then sleeps after he finishes it.  Though lately he’s been able to sleep til 4 AM before he wakes up hungry.
